Privacy Policy for NextScholar

1. Introduction

NextScholar is a Chrome extension that helps users track scholarship deadlines. This privacy policy explains how NextScholar collects, uses, and protects your data — especially any Google user data accessed through the Google Calendar API.

2. Data Collection

NextScholar does not collect or store personal information on external servers. All data you enter (scholarship names, deadlines, notes, etc.) is stored locally on your device using your browser's local storage.

When you choose to sync a deadline to Google Calendar, the extension temporarily accesses your Google Calendar through OAuth 2.0 to create a calendar event. Only the minimum data needed to create the event is used.

3. Google User Data

If you authorize the "Sync to Google Calendar" feature, NextScholar accesses your Google Calendar to create events. Specifically, we use the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events scope to:

• Create calendar events that reflect your selected scholarship deadlines
• Add the title, description, and due date you provide

No other calendar data is read, modified, or stored.

4. Data Usage

All data is used solely to help you manage your scholarship applications. We do not collect, store, or analyze your data. Google user data is used only as needed to fulfill your request to create a calendar event.

5. Data Sharing

Your data is never shared with the developer or any third party. Google user data is sent directly to the Google Calendar API through secure, OAuth-authorized requests. We do not sell, transfer, or disclose your data to any other party.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your information:

• Calendar sync is performed over secure HTTPS connections
• OAuth tokens are handled securely in the browser
• Your data is stored only in your browser and not on our servers
• Google user data is not retained after the calendar event is created

If you uninstall the extension or clear your browser storage, your data will be permanently deleted.

7. Data Retention

No Google user data is retained beyond the duration of the calendar sync operation. Local scholarship tracking data remains on your browser until you delete it.

8. Analytics and Tracking

NextScholar does not use analytics, cookies, trackers, or ads.

9. Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, we will post the updated version at https://next-scholar.com/privacy.html and notify users via extension update notes.
